Your First Visit

What will your first orthodontic visit be like? While every initial consultation is unique in results and evaluation, each one follows the same protocol and procedures by our trained, professional staff, so each potential patient will know what to expect.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

At your initial consultation, we’ll take the time to get to know you, listen to your goals, and conduct a full orthodontic evaluation. By the end of your consultation, you’ll receive a clear overview of your treatment options and have the opportunity to ask questions in a no-pressure environment.

Office Policies & Helpful FAQs

We know orthodontic care comes with a lot of questions—so we’ve gathered answers to the ones we hear most often.

  • Orthodontic specialists complete additional training beyond dental school to treat complex alignment and bite issues. Your smile—and often your facial structure—is permanently changed by orthodontic treatment, so it’s important to trust a specialist with the expertise to do it right.

  • The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a screening at age seven. At this age, several permanent teeth have typically erupted, allowing us to spot potential issues early—even if no treatment is needed yet.

  • No. In fact, as permanent molars erupt, the available space for front teeth often decreases. Waiting may make issues harder to correct later.

  • Not at all. Many of our patients are adults, and we offer treatment options tailored to adult needs and lifestyles. It’s never too late to improve your smile and confidence.

  • Treatment timelines vary by case, but most patients wear braces or aligners for 12 to 30 months. The average is about 22 months.

  • Most patients are seen every 5 to 10 weeks. If more frequent monitoring is needed, we’ll let you know and adjust your schedule accordingly.

  • Yes. We’re happy to help busy families. We may occasionally ask to speak with a parent after a visit, so we ask that parents check in with our team before dropping off their child.

  • Braces don’t usually hurt, but you may feel temporary soreness after certain adjustments. Over-the-counter medications like Advil or Tylenol can help. We like to say: “It doesn’t have to hurt to work.”

  • Yes. We recommend mouthguards during sports. Musicians may need a brief adjustment period, but you’ll be able to continue practicing and performing.

  • Absolutely. Regular check-ups with your general dentist are essential to keeping your teeth clean and healthy throughout treatment.
