Why Early Intervention Matters in Orthodontics
Most parents think about braces when their kids hit middle school. But what if you could prevent problems before they start? That’s the idea behind early orthodontic intervention.
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that kids see an orthodontist for the first time around age seven. At this age, your child has a mix of baby and permanent teeth, and we can start to see how things are shaping up. Even if everything looks fine on the surface, a quick visit can reveal crowding, jaw growth concerns, or bite issues that are easier to treat early.
Sometimes early treatment is helpful to create more space, guide the growth of the jaw, or correct habits like thumb-sucking. And in many cases, no treatment is needed at all. That first visit simply gives us a starting point and helps you stay ahead of any developing issues.
Our goal at Mathur & Taylor Orthodontics is always to provide honest, thoughtful care. If your child doesn’t need anything right now, we’ll say so. But if we see something that could benefit from early support, we’ll walk you through the plan.
It’s a small step that can make a big difference for your child’s long-term health and confidence. And we’re here to make it simple, supportive, and stress-free.
