Dr. Simi Mathur Purchases Taylor Orthodontics; Becomes New Owner of Mathur & Taylor Orthodontics
As of December 2025, Taylor Orthodontics is now under new ownership and operating under the new name Mathur & Taylor Orthodontics. Upon announcing the ownership transfer from Dr. Charles M. Taylor, III, Dr. Simi Mathur made an announcement, stating the following in gratitude and humility:
“It is an honor to carry forward the legacy he built, and I am grateful that Dr. Taylor will continue to practice with me for as long as he desires.”

This business decision was made discreetly but certainly not in haste. Handing the keys to this 40+ year practice was done with dedicated precision and careful decision-making between both Dr. Taylor and Dr. Mathur.
The History of Taylor Orthodontics
Dr. Taylor and Dr. Mathur when the practice was called Taylor Orthodontics.
Dr. Charles M. Taylor, III started his practice in 1987, shortly after returning to Abilene, TX, from Los Angeles, CA, where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at the University of Southern California. Since then, Dr. Taylor has continued building his reputation as a second-generation orthodontist, with four decades of practicing orthodontics under his belt. Over the years, kids, teens, adults, and families came to Taylor Orthodontics in Abilene, TX, from all over the West Texas region, including Clyde, Merkel, and Wylie, to acquire lasting, confident smiles from the skilled hands of Dr. Taylor and his team. Taylor Orthodontics used to have an office in Sweetwater, TX until the decision was made to close that location in December 2025.
Among the many who received orthodontic care was Simi Mathur and her sister, two women born and raised in Texas with big dreams of their own to help others and give back to their respective communities. Simi and her family saw Dr. Taylor during their teenage years, and Simi was introduced to the dental field long before she would finally decide to become an orthodontist, just like her predecessor.
A Decade-Long Mentorship

Shortly after graduating from Wylie High School, Simi began to shadow Dr. Taylor to see if orthodontics would be a good field for her. By 2016, Simi had firmly decided to step into the field and begin her studies in the dental field. She acquired her Master’s in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX. A few years later, she completed her Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry, but it required tenacity and encouragement from friends, family, and her mentor, Dr. Taylor. From challenging labs to managing studies during the COVID era, Dr. Taylor was there to cheer on Simi every step of the way, providing advice and prompting her to never give up. In 2024, she received her Doctorate and subsequently moved back to Abilene as Dr. Mathur, where she and Dr. Taylor would practice orthodontics side-by-side and begin finalizing the purchase of the practice.

Dr. Mathur and Dr. Taylor continue to provide excellent orthodontic care for patients of all ages in Abilene at Mathur & Taylor Orthodontics, where “Steady Progress, Lasting Confidence” is the motto and legacy which Dr. Mathur continues to carry. The business still operates at the same location, 5200 Buffalo Gap Road, Building C, with services including braces, aligners, retainers, and more.
